Britney Spears sells entire music catalogue for $200 million
Spears, 44, joins a growing list of high-profile artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber, and Shakira, who have recently sold their back catalogues
Pop superstar Britney Spears has sold her entire music catalogue to independent music publisher Primary Wave for about $200 million (£146 million). The deal, which reportedly took place on 30 December, includes rights to her major hits such as "...Baby One More Time," "Oops!... I Did It Again," "Toxic," and "Gimme More."
Spears, 44, joins a growing list of high-profile artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber, and Shakira, who have recently sold their back catalogues. Primary Wave, founded by Lawrence Mestel, also holds rights to the estates of Prince, Whitney Houston, and Notorious BIG, says the BBC.
Spears is recognized as one of the best-selling female artists in the world, with more than 150 million records sold and nine studio albums released since her debut in 1999. In January 2024, she said she would "never return to the music industry." Her most recent musical release was a 2022 duet with Elton John.
This financial move comes after the 2021 termination of a 13-year conservatorship that saw Spears' father control her personal life and finances. She detailed the struggles of living under the legal guardianship in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. Following this, her ex-husband Kevin Federline released his memoir, You Thought You Knew, at the end of 2025.
While official representatives for Spears have declined to comment on the sale, the transaction marks a major milestone in her professional life following years of personal and legal challenges.
