Blinding Lights sets Spotify record

The Weeknd's global smash Blinding Lights has become the first song to surpass five billion streams on Spotify, the platform confirmed yesterday. The milestone cements the track's place as one of the most successful songs of the digital era.
Released in late 2019 as part of the singer's fourth studio album After Hours, the single dominated charts worldwide. It spent four weeks at No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, set a record by staying in the top 10 for a full year, and later topped Billboard's Greatest of All Time Hot 100 chart.
Just days before the Spotify record, Blinding Lights was crowned No 1 on Billboard's Top Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs of the 21st Century. Earlier this year, it also became the first song to cross four billion Spotify streams.
The Weeknd, who has 28 tracks in Spotify's Billions Club, celebrated the achievement with fans on Instagram, calling the moment humbling and unforgettable.
