We want unity, not division: Hasnat Abdullah

The students want unity, not division as it is essential to eradicate fascism from the country, said Hasnat Abdullah, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

"The unity of all anti-fascist political parties is essential at this moment to abolish the fascist system and ensure justice for the perpetrators of the ousted Awami League government. Therefore, we must replace mutual hostility, distrust, and factionalism with unity and cooperation," he said in a Facebook post yesterday (19 November). 

The coordinator added, "To achieve our shared goal, we will work together in the future, setting aside differences." 

"Students hold no division with any anti-fascist parties, including the BNP and Jamaat. Moreover, one thing has become crystal clear after this uprising: politics of division and discord will never bring welfare to the common people of Bangladesh," added Hasnat. 

He also said in the past decade under the rule of the Awami League, parties like BNP and Jamaat faced injustices and oppression and lost many of their leaders and activists.

"Labourers and even ordinary people, including children and teenagers, who participated in the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and led the 2024 mass uprising were victims of the Awami League's brutal killings," he added. 

He further said the success of the mass uprising opened the doors for a new Bangladesh. 

"To permanently abolish the fascist system, the mass uprising of 2024 has presented all oppressed groups with the opportunity for a grand unity," said Hasnat. 

The coordinator also said Awami League has no space to operate as a political entity in a fascism-free Bangladesh.
