BGB forces alert at Kurigram borders
BGB have also urged locals to inform them of any unusual activity along the border
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are on alert to avoid any chaos and have ensured highest security measures at the Kurigram borders with India, following Assam publishing the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Along with strengthening regular patrolling operations, the BGB have also urged locals to inform them of any unusual activity along the border.
Kurigram’s Bhuruingamari, Nageshwari, Rowmari, and Sadar upazilas have borders with Assam – India’s Northeastern state where 1.9 million people were excluded out of the citizenship list on Saturday.

Moreover, the border guard forces have also been alert at all other borders in the district with India’s other states, including West Bengal, and Meghalaya.
Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Uddin, commander of Kurigram BGB-22 battalion, however, said: “We are always alert along the border areas, not just for the recent NRC issue. However, officials concerned at the Border Outposts (BOPs) have been instructed to keep in touch with local people to get more information.
“Nine BOP camps under BGB-22 at the Assam border have been instructed to stay alert. We have enough manpower at all BOPs to tackle any unwanted situation,” he added.
A 32-kilometer-long border with India in the district’s Rowmari upazila with nine BOPs are under the Jamalpur BGB-35 battalion.
All troops have increased patrolling to intercept any push-in from Assam.
Jamalpur BGB-35 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Nazrul Islam said they have taken additional security measures considering the Assam issue. “Additional troops have been deployed and patrols have been strengthened.”
Battalion Commander of BGB-15 at – responsible for border security at Fulbari, Bhuruingamari, and Nageshwari areas in Lalmonirhat – Lieutenant Colonel Anwar Ul Alam said they have also strengthened security measures to prevent any sort of illegal intrusion, push-in, or smuggling.
Assam finalised its NRC on August 31, excluding around 1.9 million inhabitants who had been residing there for a long time.
