Agreement with India to be followed to bring back Sheikh Hasina: Home adviser
He said journalists will be rewarded if they can provide information on the whereabouts of absconding influential [Awami League] leaders
The government will follow the existing agreement with India to bring former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today (19 October).
Regarding the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Tribunal against Sheikh Hasina and former minister Obaidul Quader, and the efforts to bring them back to the country, the adviser said, "The foreign affairs adviser has already addressed this issue in detail in the media. We have an agreement with India regarding this, and we will certainly follow that agreement."
Briefing journalists at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Sector Headquarters in Rajshahi, the adviser warned that legal action will be taken against those who file frivolous or ill-intended lawsuits aiming to harass people.

When asked whether the government has specific information about Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and former foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, the adviser said, "We do not have any specific information regarding them. However, if you have any such information, you are encouraged to share it, and you will be rewarded for your assistance."
Addressing journalists, Jahangir said, "Journalists will be rewarded if they can provide information on the whereabouts of absconding influential [Awami League] leaders."
In response to a question about public concerns over the police's inability to function effectively, the adviser said since 5 August, the police have made significant progress compared to their previous condition.
"The force has been recovering from a trauma. While it will take time to fully heal, progress has already been made and will continue," he added.
