Landslide kills 6 in Cox’s Bazar
The incidents happened during the early hours today (13 September), according to locals
At least six people have died in separate landslides in Cox's Bazar Sadar and a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila.
Among the deceased, three of a family died in the Jhilongjha union of Cox's Bazar Sadar, and three others of another family lost their lives in No-14 Hakimpara Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila.
The incidents happened during the early hours today (13 September), according to locals.

Among the deceased are Akhi Moni, wife of Mizanur Rahman from the South Dikkul area in Sadar, and her two daughters, Miha Jannat Naima and Latifa Islam.
Besides, Abdur Rahim, Abdul Hafez, and Abdul Wahed, three sons of Kabir Ahmed, a Rohingya refugee from the E-2 block of the No-14 Rohingya camp, died in the landslide.
"We heard heavy noise of a landslide from the direction of Mizanur Rahman's house around 2am on Friday. When we reached the spot, we found MIzanur's family members buried under the rubble," said Mizanul Karim Sikder, a local union parishad member.
"We were able to rescue Mizanur Rahman alive immediately, and later, we recovered the bodies of Akhi and her daughters with the help of the fire service," he added.
Mizanul also said that Mizanur's house was situated under a hill. Heavy rains wet the soil, resulting in the landslide.
Meanwhile, three houses were damaged, alongside the three deaths in a landslide in No-14 Hakimpara Rohingya camp, according to Additional Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) office Shamsuuddouza Noyon.
"Volunteers are carrying out rescue operations," he added.
Meanwhile, Cox's Bazar has witnessed moderate to heavy rain since Wednesday (11 September). Due to excessive rainfall, many areas in the city have become waterlogged.
The rain has washed away many houses, exacerbating the plight of the city dwellers.
"378mm rainfall has been recorded from 6am on Thursday to 6am on Friday. This is the highest amount of rainfall recorded in Cox's Bazar this monsoon season," said Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at Cox's Bazar Met Office.
