BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said today (29 August) that the relationship between Bangladesh and Russia will continue.

"We do not view any particular country separately... There will be relations with all countries, and the relationship between the people of Bangladesh and the people of Russia will continue, as will the relationship between the two countries," he said at a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy.

"Discussions were held on trade, investment, scientific, energy, and cultural cooperation between the two countries," he added.

"BNP's foreign policy is to maintain good relations with everyone while taking advantage of the comparative advantages between countries... Wherever Bangladesh has comparative advantages, we want to utilise them. The relationship between the two countries should be mutually beneficial," he said.

He also mentioned that they talked about removing barriers to financial transactions between the two countries. "Overall, we discussed how the relationship between the two countries can be advanced in a manner similar to our relations with other nations."

The BNP leader said the Russian envoy inquired about the current situation in Bangladesh, including the election and related matters. "They also wanted to know when the election might take place. We clarified our position, stating that power will be transferred to an elected government as soon as possible, although we did not specify a time frame."
