A murder case has been filed against 101 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, in connection with the hacking and beating of teacher Selim Hossain in Bogura during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Besides, 350 other unidentified people have been accused in the case.

Sekendar Ali, the victim's father, filed the case at Bogura Sadar police station yesterday (15 August) night, confirmed the station's OC Saihan Oliullah confirmed the matter.

Earlier, on 4 August, on the first day of the 1-point movement called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to bring down the government, teacher Selim Hossain was hacked and beaten to death in the Satmatha area of Bogura city. 

He hailed from Palikanda village of Pirob Union of Shibganj Upazila of Bogura. He lived in Islampur Harigari of Bogura Sadar. He was an assistant teacher at Muril Light House School in Kahaloo Upazila.

It is mentioned in the case statement, on the orders of Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, during the anti-discrimination student movement on 4 August, at 3pm, in front of the IFIC Bank on the Satmatha station road in Bogura city, a group led by the two former MPs of the Awami League attacked the protestors and threw cocktails and petrol bombs. At this time, teacher Salim Hossain was injured. Bogura Municipal Councilors Abdul Matin Sarkar and Aminul Islam hacked him with a local sharp weapon and Councilor Arifur Rahman injured him by beating him with a hockey stick. Later, other attackers hit him with weapons and left, ensuring his death.

Among the remaining 99 defendants in the case, the notable defendants are former Member of Parliament of Bogura-5 (Dhunot-Sherpur Constituency) and District Awami League President Mojibur Rahman Majnu, former MP of Bogura-6 (Sadar) Constituency Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, District Awami League Vice President T Zaman Niketa, Joint General Secretary Monjurul Alam, Sagar Kumar Roy, AKM Asadur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Shahadat Alam, City Awami League President Rafi Newaz Khan, General Secretary Obaidul Hasan, Bogura District Jubo League President Shubashish Poddar, General Secretary Aminul Islam, District Volunteers League President Sajedur Rahman, General Secretary Zulfikar Rahman, District Chhatra League President Sajib Saha, General Secretary Al Mahidul Islam, two former District Chhatra League Presidents Al Raji Jewel and Naimur Razzak, two former General Secretaries Mashrafe Hero and Asim Kumar Roy, former organising secretary of the city Awami League Abdul Mannan Akand, Bogura Chamber of Commerce and Industry President and District Awami League Treasurer Masudur Rahman, Chamber Vice President and Sadar Upazila Awami League General Secretary Mafuzul Islam, and Sadar Upazila Awami League President Abu Sufian.

Abdul Based, a legal aid in the case and vice-president of Bogura district BNP, said that he was hacked and beaten to death on the orders of Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader for participating in the peaceful programme of the students. For this reason, these two have been charged as the perpetrator of the murder.

OC Saihan Oliullah also said another case was filed in the incident of burning the office of the Sramik Dal, Shamsul Alam, the organizing secretary of the organization, filed a case accusing 141 people including District Jubo League president Shubashish Poddar Liton.
