Murder case filed against Hasina, 34 others in Gazipur
Another murder case filed against 316 people, with former minister Mozammel as the prime accused

A murder case has been filed in Gazipur against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 34 others, accusing them of involvement in killings and incitement to murder during the July Uprising last year.
Besides, another case has been filed against 316 people, with former liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel as the prime accused.
Gazipur police filed the case on behalf the martyred Mahfuj and Rustam Mia' family, as Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) in Gazipur Ashfaquzzaman told The Business Standard.
"Although Mahfuj and Rustam are listed among the martyrs of the mass uprising, no cases had previously been filed regarding their deaths. Further action will be taken once the investigating officer proceeds with the necessary legal procedures," he added.
According to the case statement, on 5 August last year, residents gathered around the Shafipur Ansar Academy in Gazipur's Kaliakair in the afternoon. During the protest, police opened fire and used batons on a procession near gate no-3 of the academy, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries to over a hundred people.
Among the deceased were Md Mahfuj, 35, and Md Rustam Mia, 46.
On 30 May, Apel Mahmud, brother of slain Mahfuj, filed a complaint with Gazipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.
Later, a case was filed with Kaliakair Police Station based on a directive from the court.
In the case, 34 people have been accused as named and another 300-400 individuals have been kept unnamed.
Sheikh Hasina, the ex-prime minister, has been named as the prime accused in the case.
Meanwhile, Shefali Begum, wife of slain Rustam Mia, has also filed a case with Kaliakair Police Station over her husband's murder.
In the case, 316 people have been named as accused and 400 others as unknown individuals, with former minister Mozammel as the prime accused.
According to the case statement, on the afternoon of 5 August, Mahfuj completed his shift at the factory and joined the movement, where he was killed by gunshots.
Shefali alleged that her husband was working as a guard at a house in Ahammednagar area, and was killed after he joined the movement in front of the Ansar Academy and was shot.
