Police, army members and local administration have remained firm in ensuring proper lockdown in the capital's East Rajabazar area, placed in red zone, to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection.

The area is going through an experimental 14-day lockdown from June 9 midnight.

According to police, local volunteers along with law enforcement units have been working to restrict people's movement in the area, where all the entry gates, shops and play grounds have been kept closed.

"The lockdown is being observed better than that of the previous day as the locals have started to perceive the importance of it," police said.

However, some residents wanted to go out of the area today but they were not given permissions.

Only health workers, journalists, patients and the people with urgent need were allowed to go outside.

On the other hand, several people flouted the lockdown by using the road beside Tejgaon College as an alternative way. Police and local volunteers later blocked the road.

Mahbubur Rahman, sub inspector of She-e-Bangla Nagar Police station, said, "Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has set up three vans of vegetables, two vans of fruits and four vans of other things in the area. Besides, if any resident orders essentials online from Shwapno, Meena Bazar, etc., local volunteers will deliver the things to the respective addresses."
