The IMD said that the depression will intensify into a ‘deep depression’ by today afternoon and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over East-central Arabian Sea during the next 12 hours

Deep depression in Arabian Sea likely to intensify into severe cyclonic storm in 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday announced that the depression in Arabian Sea might develop a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm within 24 hours.

"It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and further into a severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 12 hours, IMD said in a statement, reported Times of India.

In wake of the impending threat of Cyclone "Nisarga", the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed a team in Maharashtra.

"It's very likely to move nearly northwards during the next 6 hours and recurve north-northeastwards thereafter, and cross north Maharashtra and adjoining south Gujarat coast between Harihareshwar (Raigad, Maharashtra) and Daman during the afternoon of June 3," according to IMD statement.

 

he IMD said that the depression will intensify into a deep depression by today afternoon and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over East-central Arabian Sea during the next 12 hours.

It further said that "The depression over East-central Arabian Sea moved northwards with a speed of 11 kilometers per hour during the past 6 hours and intensified into a deep depression and lay centered at 5:30am today over the East-central Arabian Sea."

The weathermen said that the depression over the East-central Arabian Sea lay near latitude 14.4°North and longitude 71.2°East about 300 km west-southwest of Panjim, 550 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 770 km south-southwest of Surat, as per IMD update at 2.30 am on Tuesday.
