Launch services suspended for second day in Barishal amid rough weather
Authorities have advised river ports to hoist signal number 2, while sea ports have been asked to maintain signal number 3

All internal river launch services in Barishal remained suspended for the second consecutive day due to rough weather caused by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal today (30 May).
However, long-distance services on the Dhaka-Barisal route are still operating, confirmed Selim Reza, an official at the Barishal River Port.
He said launch operations on internal routes have been halted due to ongoing weather alerts and strong waves on the rivers. Operations will resume once weather conditions improve.
Meanwhile, Anisur Rahman, a senior observer at the Barishal Meteorological Office, reported that although the depression crossed the coastal area late last night (29 May), its effects are expected to linger for the next 24 to 48 hours. As a result, heavy rainfall is continuing in several areas.
Authorities have advised river ports to hoist signal number 2, while sea ports have been asked to maintain signal number 3.
Anisur also noted that 120millimetress of rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours from yesterday morning to this morning. He expects the heavy rainfall to persist for another day or two before the weather starts to clear.
Tajul Islam, a sub-assistant engineer at the Water Development Board's Hydrography Division in Barishal, stated that although water levels in seven key river points across the division exceeded danger levels in the past two days, all rivers were flowing below danger levels as of today.
A review of 19 monitoring points showed that river levels have returned to normal.
