Mamunul Haque, former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, has been released in bail.

He was released from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur around 11am today (3 May), confirmed Kashimpur Jail's Senior Jail Superintendent Subrata Kumar Bala.

He said there are 37 cases against Mamunul in different police stations. He got bail in 36 of these cases at various times.

He was granted bail by the High Court in the last case yesterday (2 May).

Anticipating his release, thousands of Mamunul's supporters thronged the gate of Kashimpur Jail yesterday. However, he was not released that day.

"Mamunul's bail paper reached the jail yesterday afternoon. But as he is accused in many cases, it took time to verify everything," said Subrata.

According to a Hefazat-e-Islam source, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, the central leader of Hefazat Islam and others welcomed him with flowers after his release from prison.
