Some 50 villages of Barguna have been inundated as embankments at several spots breached by the tidal surge due to the cyclone Amphan last night.  

Around ten thousands of houses, some 250 hectares of crop land, 50 hectares of agricultural land and seven mango orchards in the district have been damaged by the cyclonic storm. 

However, no dead or missing persons have been reported yet, said Barguna Deputy Commissioner Mostain Billah.

About 4.84 hector of 121 fisheries and some 4.05 hector of ten shrimps farms were submerged while some fifteen poultry farms and twelve cattle farms were also damaged in fully or partly in the district.  

District Water Development Board Executive Engineer Kaiser Ahmed said, "Cyclone Amphan caused more than 11-foot tidal surges in the district last night, which eroded embankments in at least 15 spots and flooded the area. However, the water level has decreased and we are repairing the embankments." 

According to local people, embankments of Gabbaria, Padma, Khalifar Hat, Macher Khal, Kalmegha, Kathaltali, Ayala-Patakata, Burirachar, Chota Labangola areas of Patharghata upazila of the district have been eroded and flooded the areas.

Manmath Ranjan Kharati, union parishad member of Kathaltali union of Patharghata upazila said, "The embankment of ward no-1 of the union has been broken and flooded two villages. Fish enclosures worth of Tk10 lakh have been damaged along with crops." 

Sohel Rana, union parishad member of Naltona union in Sadar upazila, said that several houses were destroyed in the Kumirmara area of the union.
