2 dengue patients die in Barguna in a day, 172 hospitalised
Hospital authorities confirmed that 79 patients were admitted with dengue in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of hospitalised dengue patients in the district to 172 as of yesterday evening

Two elderly patients have died of dengue fever while undergoing treatment at Barguna General Hospital, bringing the total number of dengue-related deaths at the facility to five so far.
The deceased have been identified as Chan Mia, 75, of M Baliatoli Union in Barguna Sadar upazila, and Gosai Das, 70, of the Thanapara area in Barguna municipality.
Hospital authorities confirmed that 79 patients were admitted with dengue in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of hospitalised dengue patients in the district to 172 as of yesterday evening (11 June).
Dr Rezwanur Alam, superintendent of Barguna General Hospital, said, "Two people died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Both were elderly. When their physical condition deteriorated, they were referred to Barishal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment."
According to the hospital, Chan Mia had been admitted three days earlier.
"I admitted my father to the hospital three days ago when he was ill. He died on Wednesday morning," said his daughter Kulsum.
Meanwhile, Gosai Das's son, Sanjay Chandra Das, said, "My father's physical condition was good until noon. He had his platelets tested at the clinic in the morning and went home to eat. Later, when he was taken to the hospital, he suddenly started having trouble breathing and died after being given oxygen."
Earlier, three other women died while undergoing dengue treatment at the same hospital, said officials.
According to data from the Barguna Civil Surgeon's Office, a total of 1,544 dengue patients received treatment in the district between January and June this year.
