Bus driver's fatigue key factor behind Faridpur crash killing 15: Probe report

The committee investigating last week's tragic road crash in Faridpur, which claimed 15 lives, has identified the bus driver's fatigue and drowsiness resulting from extended Eid duties as one of the primary factors behind the incident.
The seven-member committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Muhammad Ali Siddiqui, was formed on the day of the accident. It submitted the report to Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan Talukdar on 21 April.
Ali Siddiqui said the committee found three other reasons – excessive speed of the bus and the pickup involved, the vehicles hitting the brakes on the highway, and the presence of an autorickshaw on their path.
On 16 April, the accident occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna highway when a Unique Paribahan bus heading to Jashore from the capital collided with a pickup coming from the opposite direction in the Diknagar area of Kanaipur upazila around 8am.
RAB arrested the bus driver on Sunday afternoon.
