The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to provide doctors, nurses and others at private hospitals with personal protective gear to protect them from Covid-19 infections.

The single-member virtual bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Monday.

The court asked the health secretary, additional secretary (hospital), director general of the health directorate and the president or secretary of the Bangladesh Private Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association to executive the order immediately.

The court also asked the authorities concerned to submit a report within a week on implementation of the measures and recommendations made by the national technical advisory committee on coronavirus.

Earlier on May 11, advocate Manzill Murshid filed the writ petition on behalf the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, a rights organisation.

Manzill Murshid placed his depositions in favour of the writ petition while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam defended the state at the hearing.
