Speakers have reiterated the critical role of the telecommunication sector in the battle against the coronavirus

The telecom technology could be the weapon to battle the Covid-19 crisis and post-pandemic economic revival, speakers said in a conference on Monday. 

The conference "Huawei Bangladesh Digital Summit 2020" was organised by Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited through video conferencing. 

Participants from different entities including BTRC, Ookla, Windsor Place Consulting discussed and exchanged views on 5G global ecosystem, architecture, spectrum and standardization outlook in the summit.

Speakers have reiterated the critical role of the telecommunication sector in the battle against the coronavirus. 

They have stressed that 4G/5G networks are emerging not only as of the foundation for advanced communication services but also as the infrastructure supporting socio-economic development and driving industrial digital transformation. 

"The entire world is having a very difficult time, and technology is one of the key components for which we are still operational in so many levels, Chairman of BTRC Md Jahurul Haque said. 

"We have been hit by Covid-19 when we are on the verge of introducing epoch-making technologies with such an immense opportunity for the future. We can realize the importance of 5G, and the government is analyzing and setting things," he added. 

When we have 5G, we will find new growth opportunities, he further said, thanking the organisers of the event for carrying out this initiative in such a difficult time.

Vice President of Asia Pacific Region of Huawei Jay Chen said, "Technology can bring the best results when is time-based. And the excellency of technology is it is for mankind." 

"I believe that with the joint efforts of all of us, we will get through this difficult period as soon as possible," he added.

Appreciate Huawei Bangladesh's initiative of organizing the summit, Commissioner BTRC's Spectrum Division Md Aminul Hassan said, "The participants have brought many topics into the light – how technology, with the help of 5G, can support the economy and society, especially during the crisis of Covid-19."

Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd CEO Zhangzhen Jun; CTO Jerry Wang; Scott W Minehane from Windsor; Victor Zeng and Arvin Mogana from Ookla, among others attended the event.
