11 IUB students selected for prestigious Millennium Fellowship

A group of 11 students from Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have earned spots in the prestigious Millennium Fellowship program, which is a semester-long leadership accelerator enabled by a collaboration between the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN).

With a focus on addressing critical issues related to education and the environment, these students are set to leave a meaningful mark on their local community and beyond, reads a press release.

The competitive program challenges undergraduate students from universities from around the world to work on projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Out of 44,000 applicants representing 3,000 campuses from across the globe, roughly 4,000 students from 268 campuses were chosen to participate.

The journey for the IUB students began with a rigorous selection process that included multiple evaluation rounds and interviews. They are thrilled to be among the select few chosen for this prestigious program. Over the next four months, they will be actively engaged in projects aimed at addressing various local issues. Their focus areas include enhancing the quality of education, addressing environmental concerns, and reflecting pressing global challenges.

The Millennium Fellowship provides participants with a platform for international networking, access to valuable training sessions, and the opportunity to showcase their projects on a global stage. This experience will conclude with a virtual graduation ceremony in November, where the IUB students will submit final reports on the projects they undertook to uplift their community and peers.

The students from IUB participating in the Millennium Fellowship represent various departments. Their team includes Campus Directors, IUB Cohort, Millennium Fellowship 2023 Mostofa Fahim Hasan from the Computer Science & Engineering department and Tanfia Khan Disha from Biochemistry & Biotechnology. The other nine students, all from Department of Biochemistry & Biotechnology, are Ashrafi Anjuman Sneha, Mehnaz Islam, Namira Tajrin, Rokaya Zannat, Sanjina Alam Maliha, Asmaul Husna, Mohammad Nahid Al Islam, Munasib Ahmed, and Sanjida Saniha Rashid Soha.
