The observance will begin at one minute past after midnight on February 21 through placing wreaths at local Shaheed Minar of the Shaheed Hadis Park and other Shaheed Minars here to pay due respect to Language movement Martyrs

Preparations afoot to celebrate International Mother Language Day

A preparatory meeting to chalk out an elaborate program in observance of the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day-2020 was held at circuit house Conference room here on Tuesday.

Additional deputy commissioner (General) Ziaur Rahman presided over the meeting. Assistant commissioner Sharmin Jahan Luna, president and general Secretary of Khulna Press Club S M Nazrul Islam and Mamun Reza, freedom fighters Mohammad Alamgir Kabir and Sardar Mahbubar Rahman, government officials, heads of the educational institutions, professionals, socio-cultural activists, political leaders and eminent citizens, among others, attended the meeting.

National flag will be hoisted at half-mast in all the government, semi government, private and academic institutions in the morning on the day.

The programmes of the day also include offering of special prayers at the places of worship and holding discussion, cultural functions, art and essay writing competitions and prize distribution ceremony.

Various sub-committees have already been formed to arrange all the programmes in the district total success.
