The schedules of 10 intercity trains in the eastern and western zones of the country, have been changed.

The changes involved advancing or delaying the schedules by five or ten minutes, reports Prothom Alo.

The schedule of the Dhaka-bound intercity train from Chattogram, Suborno Express, was not changed. It will leave Chattogram at 7am like before.

However, the train will leave for Chattogram from Dhaka at 4:30pm instead of 3pm.

The office of the chief operating officer of the eastern zone sent a proposal to the railway authorities to change the schedule of Dhaka-bound Suborno Express from 7am to 8am.

Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md Shamsuzzaman said, "We did not accept the proposal to let Suborno Express depart from Chattogram at 8am. The train will leave for Dhaka at 7am as per the previous schedule.

"However, it will leave for Chattogram at 4:30pm. So, passengers can stay in Dhaka for another one hour and a half."

People criticised the proposal to delay the departure of Suborno Express from Chattogram by an hour.

In 1998, Suborno Express started its journey on April 14, the first day of the Bengali new year. This is the first non-stop train in Bangladesh.

The 10 intercity trains will operate according to the updated schedules from January 1.

The decision was taken at a meeting at the Rail Bhaban in the capital on Thursday. The railway director general chaired the meeting.

Railway sources said a proposal to change the schedules of 67 trains was sent to the Rail Bhaban.

The final decision was made after analysing the proposed schedules on Thursday.
