Red Crescent Society ready for cyclone Yaas

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has prepared to face cyclone Yaas that may sweep across the country on 26 May. 
 
In the meantime, BDRCS has given directives to its different units in 14 coastal districts, including Chattogram and Cox's Bazar and asked all concerned to be ready with their ongoing population movement operations in Cox's Bazar and Bhashan Char in Noakhali, according to a press release.

The authorities say the National Disaster Response Team (NDRT), the National Disaster Watsan Response Team (NDWRT), the Unit Disaster Response (UDRT), and all volunteers and officials in 14 coastal districts are readied to tackle the cyclonic storm.
 
BDRCS also offered training to all volunteers, officials, and unit committee members over a virtual platform in this regard. 
 
As part of precautionary measures for cyclone Yaas in coastal districts, they have made arrangements for dry food, orsaline, drinking water and health protection equipment, like surgical masks and hand sanitizer to meet the demands driven by the cyclone. Arrangements have also been made to spray disinfectants and for hand washing at shelters.
 
At this moment, they will conduct forecast-based action in the seven most risky coastal districts (Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna, Bhola and Patuakhali) and have a plan to increase their course of action in other districts after the cyclone.
 
A virtual meeting was held regarding preparations to tackle cyclone Yaas on Sunday. BDRCS Secretary General, Md Firoz Salahuddin, presided over the meeting where officials from different units, including its deputy secretary general Rafiqul Islam, were present. 
  
BDRCS Secretary General Md Firoz Salahuddin said preparatory activities are underway in the coastal districts. They also focused on proper hygiene rules at the shelters to avoid the risk of Covid-19. 
 
Arrangements have been made to provide surgical masks, hand sanitizer, and the spraying of disinfectants and hand washing at the shelters, the official added.
