No new relief, development or welfare programmes before polls: EC
Any disbursement or project initiation will require explicit permission from the EC to ensure the electoral process remains free, fair and transparent, says the commission
The Election Commission (EC) has issued directives barring the ministries of disaster management and relief as well as women and children affairs, and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society from launching any new relief, development, or welfare programmes in any electoral areas until the upcoming general election and July Charter referendum.
In letters to the ministry secretaries and the Red Crescent Society chairman, EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Manir Hossain conveyed the order yesterday (23 December), adding that ongoing programmes approved before the election will continue as scheduled.
The EC added that any new relief, grant, or welfare distribution must be coordinated through the district administration and only after seeking approval from the commission.
Electioneering using government property, vehicles, communication devices, or personnel is banned, according to the EC.
Any necessary disbursement or project initiation during this period will require explicit permission from the EC to ensure the electoral process remains free, fair, and transparent, preventing misuse of government resources.
