Hefazat stages protest at Baitul Mukarram
“Our movement will continue till we get justice over the murders by police on Friday"

More than one thousand activists of Hefazat-e-Islam have started a rally in Baitul Mukarram area today protesting Friday's police action that killed five people.
Leaders and activists of the party clashed with police and ruling Awami League men on Friday in Dhaka, Chattogram and Brahmanbaria, when they were barred from protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit. At least five people were killed and dozens injured during the clashes.

In a statement on Saturday, Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Junaid Babunagari vowed to avenge the deaths of its six activists. He said the incident of police firing on a peaceful movement can never be accepted.
Hefazat's Dhaka city leader Mufti Waliullah Saturday told The Business Standard, "Our movement will continue till we get justice over the murders by police on Friday."
Among other Hefazat leaders, it's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque is present at the protest.
Meanwhile, the government has deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in Dhaka and other parts of the country to control law and order. Besides, police have also been asked to stay alert.

Earlier on Friday, the Islamist party announced to stage demonstrations in protest against the police action on their anti-Modi rally in Dhaka, Chattogram and other districts.
They also called a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country for Sunday.
Earlier on the day, Hefazat and other like-minded Islamist parties brought out rallies in Dhaka, Chattogram and some other districts in the afternoon, protesting against Bangladesh visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
