Jamaat chief condemns police action on ‘July fighters’, calls it a shame for nation
He emphasises the importance of addressing the July fighters’ demands and urges the government to act 'fairly, sensitively, and with responsibility'

The police action on individuals who gathered on the parliament premises under the banner of "July Fighters" is a shame for the nation, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said today (17 October).
Speaking at a workers' rally in Dhaka's Mirpur-10, he said, "Those who once suffered by oppressors [during the previous government's regime], if they are now being beaten again, where will we hide our shame?"
He further said, "I have heard that the government is taking the matter seriously. But if any unpleasant incident has occurred in the meantime, I feel deeply pained, saddened, and ashamed."
Shafiqur Rahman emphasised the importance of addressing the July fighters' demands and urged the government to act "fairly, sensitively, and with responsibility."
Earlier in the day, clashes erupted between police and individuals claiming to be "July Fighters," ahead of the July National Charter signing ceremony.
Police baton-charged them and hurled multiple rounds of sound grenades and tear-gas shells to disperse the crowd. Several people were injured in the clashes.
The protestors vandalised police vehicles, including a car and a bus. They also set fire to the temporary reception room, temporary control room and furniture built in front of the MP building on Manik Mia Avenue for today's July Charter Signing Ceremony.
