Pop icon Britney Spears is reportedly considering a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey about conservatorship.

"Britney has considered speaking out about her past, mostly because she does not feel others should tell her story," a source told Entertainment Tonight.

"She has always hated doing interviews but if she ever takes that step, Oprah would most likely be her first choice," the source added.

The source however said, at this point, there was no plan in the works for her to do an interview but when she does, there will be steps Britney would need to take before speaking out.

Spears certainly has a rapport with Winfrey, appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show during the "I'm a Slave 4 U" era in 2002, though it remains to be seen whether or not a chat would happen now.

Spears has been "much happier lately" since the release of the documentary and the outpouring of support from fans, the source added.

The New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears looked at the mistreatment she faced in the media amid her rise to stardom, as well as the conservatorship that has been controlling her life since 2008.

The documentary also amplified the #FreeBritney movement, a fan-driven campaign to help her restore her rights.

In February, a judge ruled that Spears's father, Jamie Spears, would not have the sole power to delegate the singer's investments after she petitioned to have him removed as conservator last year.

While a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied her petition, a wealth management company was appointed as co-conservator.

Jamie Spears has repeatedly emphasized the need for the conservatorship in order to protect his daughter from those who would, or already have, preyed on her.

Samuel Ingham, Spears' attorney, has said repeatedly that her goal has been to have her father out entirely.

Ingham said he plans to file a petition and ask the court on their next hearing, 27 April, to make Jodi Montgomery, Britney's current "care manager," a permanent conservator.
