Irfan Selim gets bail from High Court
Irfan’s lawyer Sayed Ahmed Raza told the media that there are presently no legal hurdles against his release from jail
The High Court has granted bail to Mohammad Irfan Selim – son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Mohammad Selim – in a case filed after he reportedly assaulted a navy officer and his wife in Dhaka last year.
A High Court bench of justices Jahangir Hossain Selim and Md Badruzzaman passed the order on Thursday after disposing of a rule in this regard. Irfan's lawyer Sayed Ahmed Raza told the media that there are presently no legal hurdles against his release from jail.
Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah, who represented the state in the court, said it will file an appeal against the High Court order.

In response to Irfan Selim's bail plea filed earlier, the High Court issued a rule on 27 January seeking explanation on why he should not be granted bail in connection with the alleged assault of Navy officer Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan.
On 25 October last year, Erfan reportedly assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after the official's motorcycle collided with Erfan's car. The officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station against the lawmaker's son and others a day later.
Following the case, RAB launched a drive and arrested Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam. According to police sources, lawmaker Haji Selim was not inside the car when the incident occurred.
