Amir had married twice before marrying Sharmin, and he has a son and a daughter with his previous wives.

According to case documents, Amir married Sharmin around four months ago after an affair. He repeatedly asked the victim’s family for dowry over the course of June and July, but to no avail.

Amir threatened Sharmin’s family that he will kill her on the early hours of July 2. Later that day around 9:30am, neighbours rescued the critically injured victim from her home in the Mohammadpur area and took her to a city hospital.

Sharmin, who had lacerations on her legs and back, succumbed to her injuries the same day.

Sharmin’s father Sabed Ali filed a murder case naming Amir as the prime accused in Mohammadpur Police Station following the death of his daughter.
