Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan has expressed that he's 'sad' that Shakib al Hasan has chosen to play in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of playing the Test series against Sri Lanka in April.

The ace all-rounder has also opted out of Bangladesh's tour to New Zealand with him and his wife expecting the birth of their third child.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday the BCB president said: "I'm not angry at Shakib's decision but I am sad. Why am I sad? We have invested behind a player for 10-15 years. It's not just two Test losses against West Indies at home. We lost against Afghanistan, Pakistan and India too."

"After losing the Tests against West Indies, I was expecting the players to show more fight and willingness to win the next Test. Instead, if one player feels that they will not play Tests but rather play in another franchise league, there is nothing left to say. Now our thought process is very clear and we will not force anyone to play any format they're not interested to play in," Nazmul explained.

Bangladesh will be travelling to Sri Lanka in mid-April to play two Tests, which will be their final World Test Championship matches in the first edition of the tournament.

The Tigers have so far played five Tests and lost every single one and sit at the bottom of the table with zero points.
