Noakhali Awami League (AL) President AHM Khairul Anam Chowdhury Selim has withheld the recommendation letter to expel Abdul Quader Mirza, mayor of Basurhat municipality at Companiganj upazila in the district, from all party activities.

Around 7.30 pm on Saturday, Chowdhury said, "I have not signed the notification to expel Quader Mirza and as the president, I withheld the expulsion recommendation against Mirza for unavoidable reasons."

Earlier on Saturday evening, a recommendation letter, signed by the district AL president and General Secretary Mohammad Ekramul Karim Chowdhury MP, was sent to the party's central executive committee to expel Mirza from the party.

According to the letter, Mirza has been attacking party leaders and activists for the past few weeks and making false, indecent, and offensive comments about the central committee and district party leaders on Facebook live. In this context, the letter urged to expel Mirza from all party activities.

At the same time, alleging anti-party activities, a recommendation was sent to AL President Sheikh Hasina and the central executive body to cancel Mirza's primary membership of the party.

Earlier, Mirza raised various allegations against the Noakhali DC and SP, Companiganj police station OC and other police personnel.

He has also been demanding punishment of Noakhali-4 MP Ekramul Karim Chowdhury and Feni-2 MP Nizam Uddin Hazari for anti-political activities, tender manipulation, job-trade and closure of commission trade etc.

Earlier on Saturday, he called for hartal demanding the withdrawal of Noakhali DC and SP, and Companiganj OC for conspiring with the Noakhali-4 MP and Feni-2 MP.

Mirza says he won't engage in any anti-party activities:

Later at 9pm on Saturday, Abdul Quader Mirza came live on his Facebook page and assured that he would not be engaged in any activities that harm the common interest of the Awami League.
