JAAGO celebrates  success of its distance learning programme

JAAGO Foundation has recently celebrated the success of its distance learning programme under the government's Digital Island Moheshkhali Project at a city hotel.

Parthapratim Deb, executive director of Bangladesh Computer Council, attended the event as chief guest while Peppi Siddiq, project manager of the International Organisation for Migration, was present as a special guest.

In April 2017, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the scheme in a bid to connect the Moheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar to Dhaka.

JAAGO joined the project as an implementing partner. Through the distance learning programme, JAAGO has been able to teach around 9000 students at 10 government primary schools, train 150 teachers and create awareness on e-learning among 20000 community citizens.

Parthapratim Deb said, "With all the efforts from the ICT ministry, IOM, Korea Telecom and JAAGO Foundation, we have a digital island in Moheshkhali. I would especially like to thank the teachers for this success. Also, through creating content and conducting live digital classes, JAAGO has shown us how simply technology can help foster quality English education."

All the head teachers from the 10 government primary schools in Moheshkhali and the online teachers were also present at the event.

The event concluded with an award giving ceremony where government school teachers, online teachers and project managers were recognised for their great work.
