Samrat sent to jail after remand

A Dhaka court today sent former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat to jail after end of his 10-day remand in two cases filed with capital's Ramna Police Station for possessing illegal arms and narcotics.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order as police produced Samrat before court and pleaded to keep him behind bars.

A court here on October 15 placed Samrat on a total of 10-day remand in the two cases. Earlier on that day, another court showed Samrat arrested in those two cases.

Earlier on October 7, Police filed the pleas to take Samrat on total 20-day remand in the two cases.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 DAD Abdul Khalek filed the two cases against Samrat with Ramna Police Station on the afternoon of October 7, making former Dhaka South unit Jubo League vice-president Enamul Haque Arman co-accused in the narcotics case.

RAB on early October 6 arrested Samrat and his associate Arman from village Kunja Sreepur of Alkora union under Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district.
