The daily death toll from coronavirus infections has spiked again as authorities reported 30 deaths in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8am, up from 17 on Tuesday.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,359, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the meantime, 1,367 people tested positive for the virus. The total number of cases in the country now stands at 504,868.

Today's infection rate was 8.58% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date is 16.17%. The overall death rate now stands at 1.46%.

Also, 2,416 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 444,345 with an 88.01% recovery rate.

Among the latest day's deaths, 21 were men and nine were women. All died in different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, 16 hailed from Dhaka, nine from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi, Barishal and Khulna divisions and two from Rangpur.

Meanwhile, 15,932 samples were tested in 163 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,122,426 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 5,607 of the total fatalities were men and 1,752 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.

Global death toll rises to 1,726,611

The novel coronavirus has killed at least 1,726,611people since the outbreak emerged in China last December, according to the Worldometer at 06.35 GMT on Wednesday.

At least 78,481,651 cases of coronavirus have been registered. Of these, at least 55,245,705 have recovered so far.

On Wednesday, 3,658 new deaths and 135,104 new cases were recorded worldwide.
