Salah set to beat Ronaldo and Messi to 'Player Of The Century' award

Mohamed Salah is on course to pip Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho to the 'Player of the Century award', reports Sportbible.

Voting is ongoing for the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards, of which seven different prizes are up for grabs. According to official partner MARCA, over eight million votes were cast in the first phase.

The finalists have now been decided for awards such as Player of the Year, Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Player of the Century, Club of the Century, Coach of the Century and Agent of the Century.

And it seems one of the main awards, in particular, is being hijacked by Liverpool and Egypt fans.

Incredibly, Salah has garnered 54% of the votes for the award crowning the best player of the 21st century, at the time of writing.

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo is in second with 27% of the votes, with long-time rival and six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi only accruing 14%.

Despite lighting up the early noughties with irresistible displays for Brazil and Barcelona, Ronaldinho has managed just 5% of votes so far.

It's looking nailed on that Salah, who has 105 goals in 169 appearances for Liverpool, will be the recipient of the award.

And there could well be further Egyptian representation as surprisingly, Egyptian Premier League side Al Ahly are leading the way in the 'Club of the Century' vote.

They have 69% of votes, compared to 17% for Real Madrid, 8% for Barcelona and 5% for Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, is the frontrunner for the 'Player of the Year' award with 48% of votes, Robert Lewandowski (31%) and Messi (21%).

The awards will be announced at a ceremony in Dubai on 27 December.

Shortlist in full:
