The Chattogram Port Authority has extended the cut-off time for loading containers of export-bound readymade garments into ships by 24 hours.

The extension of time will be effective from 2 November, 2020 to 28 February, 2021, says a press release.

Earlier, exporters had to bring the export-bound containers to the port yard 24 hours before the anchorage of the mother vessel. Now they can load the vessel within 24 hours after it anchors.

According to the press release signed by Chattogram Port Director (Traffic) Enamul Karim, the cut-off time has been extended only for containers carrying readymade garments, following an appeal of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

BGMEA Director Mohammad Atique told The Business Standard, "The extension of time is a great opportunity for us, because sending the goods to the buyers on time used to become very difficult if we missed a ship. Now we are free from that worry."

Port Secretary Omar Faruk also said the port authorities have extended the cut-off time for the garment traders.
