6 arrested over garment worker gang rape

A team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday arrested six persons accused of gang-raping a female garment worker in Dhaka's Mirpur area.

According to the police, the arrestees are Raihan, Imon, Imran, Joy, Al-Amin and Abu Sayed. One of them is a relative of the victim. All of them have been arrested from Mirpur's Darussalam Road area.

Moin Uddin, assistant police commissioner of Mirpur zone, said the victim and Raihan are relatives.

Victim's father asked her not to communicate with Raihan. After hearing this, Raihan and Joy called the girl on Wednesday night when she was coming back from the garment factory. They raped the girl at the House Building Research Institute area, he also said.

The police official further said the victim later filed a case against them at Mirpur police station. Afterwards, a team of police conducted drives at several places in Mirpur. Finally, they arrested the accused from the Darussalam Road area.

Police will seek remand against them in the court, he added.
