Awami League trying to create unrest in public life: Gayeshwar

BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has alleged that the banned Awami League is trying to create unrest in public life and disrupt the country's democratic progress.
BNP leader Gayeshwar made the remarks while speaking to journalists after paying tribute to former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia at their graves today (29 September).
"Through the fall on 5 August, we were able to drive the autocracy out of this country. Some may say she left voluntarily. But she did not leave voluntarily all this time. She had to leave in the face of the movement and the tide of the people," Gayeshwar said.
Although many Awami League members have left, some people who have adopted their character still remain, he said.
"From time to time, signs of their activities can be seen. Attempts are being made to create unrest in public life and disrupt the progress of democracy. In some places, incidents such as the explosion of cocktails and bombs in the early hours of the morning are taking place," Gayeshwar said.
BNP will politically confront the Awami League, he said, adding that this does not mean engaging in face-to-face clashes with the party.
"The goal of Ziaur Rahman—multiparty democracy, independence and sovereignty—we have now been able to initiate its restoration," he said.
Assuring people across the country, Gayeshwar said BNP leaders and activists at all levels are on the side of the people.
"Leaders and activists at all levels of the nationalist party are on the side of the people. The progress of democracy will not be allowed to be disrupted under any circumstances. Such a situation will not be allowed to develop," he said.
The administration is responsible for ensuring public safety, Gayeshwar said.
"Those who are secretly engaged in various activities and sabotage must be identified, brought under the law and brought to justice. Everyone must remain vigilant for the safety of the people," he said.
