Police dispersed the students of medical and dental colleges who blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital today to press home to meet their four-point demand.

Several hundred students blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the morning to press home to meet their four-point demand.

Later, police went for action around 1:30pm and cleared the road for vehicular movement.

The students came to Shahbagh with a protest rally from Dhaka Medical College (DMC) around 11 am crossing the police barrier in front of Shahbagh police station.

Later, they blocked the intersection, leading to a halt in traffic movement through one of the key streets in Dhaka city and inflicting sufferings on the city dwellers of the adjoining areas.

The demands are- no prof amid second wave of coronavirus pandemic; make alternative arrangements to resolve the session jam issue as soon as possible and directives for starting online classes of next session to complete course on right time; not to take salary for more than 60 months in private medical colleges and to take responsibility if any student is infected with coronavirus while taking exams during the pandemic.

The students said they repeatedly requested the concerned authorities to make alternative arrangements for examinations amid the coronavirus situation.

At the same time, the students demanded not to take the money for the last seven months as the classes were suspended due to the virus restrictions.

The students said that the authorities agreed with the students that all these demands were reasonable but they are not accepting the demands.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) is set to announce the decision on the four-point demand of the students today.

But the students said that they blocked the road for delay in taking decisions.

Medical students are continuing their protests for the last couple of days to accept their demands.
