Govt to procure 10,000 tonnes of lentils, 155,000 tonnes of fertiliser
The procurement includes 80,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Canada, 35,000 tonnes from Russia and 40,000 tonnes of DAP from Saudi Arabia.
The government has approved the procurement of 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils and 155,000 metric tonnes of MOP and DAP fertilisers at a total cost of around Tk1,058 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved the proposals at a meeting today (23 September), chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The committee recommended procuring 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils in 50kg sacks through the Open Tendering Method (OTM) under the Ministry of Commerce.
Joytun Auto Rice & Dal Mills Ltd of Phultala, Khulna, was recommended as the supplier at a total cost of Tk76.89 crore, with the price fixed at Tk76.89 per kg.
The committee also approved four lots of fertiliser imports under government-to-government (G2G) arrangements.
Of these, 40,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser will be imported from the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) under an agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) at a cost of Tk189.67 crore.
Another 40,000 metric tonnes of MOP will be imported from CCC under the fourth lot of the same agreement, also at Tk189.67 crore.
Under a separate state-level agreement between Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and BADC, the government will import 35,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser at a cost of Tk165.90 crore. Prodintorg was recommended as the supplier.
The committee also approved the import of 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia's MA'ADEN under a state-level agreement with BADC.
The DAP fertiliser will cost Tk437.37 crore, with MA'ADEN recommended as the supplier.
