8 held over banned Chhatra League flash march, crude bomb blasts in Savar

Police yesterday (13 September) detained eight people in connection with a flash procession organised by the banned Chhatra League and subsequent crude bomb explosions in Savar's Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Of the eight, three were detained from the procession, while five others were picked up from different areas based on information provided by those detainees, Dhaka District North Detective Branch of Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidul Islam told The Business Standard.

The identities of those detained could not immediately be confirmed.

The OC further said the flash procession took place shortly after 1pm. "Police also recovered evidence of crude bomb explosions from the scene."

"Further legal action is underway," he added.

A video obtained from a source shows around 25-30 young men wearing red-and-green caps marching with a banner bearing the name of Savar municipality Chhatra League President Md Masum Dewan under the title "Protyaborton 2.0". They were chanting slogans in support of the Awami League.

The procession slowed traffic on the highway, creating a long tailback behind it. The group was seen moving along the Dhaka-Aricha highway towards Aricha and passing the BPATC.

However, the video does not show any explosion.

The Business Standard could not independently verify the footage.
