Southeast University hosts lecture on human rights, inclusive development
Southeast University held the third lecture of its Law Lecture Series on 2 September 2026, focusing on contemporary human rights challenges and their connection with inclusive development.
The School of Law, in association with the university's Department of Law, organised the lecture titled "Intersectional Challenges of International Human Rights Law and Inclusive Development" at the university's multipurpose hall, according to a press release.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Qur'an, followed by a welcome address from the Dean of the School of Law, Professor Dr Farhana Helal Mehtab.

She reaffirmed Southeast University's commitment to promoting legal awareness, advancing academic discourse and fostering human rights education.
Adviser to the Board of Trustees of Southeast University, Brig Gen ABM Nowroj Ehsan, BSP, BGDM, NDC, PSC (LPR), delivered remarks emphasising the importance of protecting human rights in Bangladesh.
Senior Advisor and Country Representative of UN Women, Dr AH Monjurul Kabir, attended the session as the distinguished resource person and delivered the keynote lecture.
Drawing on his professional experience, Dr Kabir discussed contemporary human rights challenges and the rights of marginalised and vulnerable communities.
He also highlighted the connection between human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr Kabir said achieving the SDGs required an inclusive, rights-based approach that ensured equality, dignity, participation and access to justice for all.
Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University Professor Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, PhD, chaired the programme and delivered the concluding remarks.
He highlighted the importance of academic engagement and legal education in raising awareness of human rights and promoting a more inclusive and just society.
