Coordinated efforts needed to build a healthy society: Tuku
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), 118 juvenile gangs are currently active across 50 police stations in the capital, with the highest concentration in Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Uttara.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku today (31 August) said a coordinated approach is needed to improve law and order, drug control and building a healthy society.
The state minister made this remark while addressing a meeting of the district law and order committee held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka here.
"The law enforcement agencies, administration, elected representatives and civil society must work sincerely to fulfill the people's expectation," said the state minister who is assigned to oversee the law and order and other development activities of Dhaka district.

Mentioning drug addiction as a major social crisis of the country, the state minister said crime is rising with the dissemination of drug abuse, saying that so, the law-enforcement agencies should take stern action along with developing mass awareness and social movement.
Calling upon the concerned to be activated to resist the prevalence of Juvenile gangs, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the spreading of the crime committed by the youth gang has significantly increased in the capital.

To strengthen peoples' confidence in the government, he said the government officials should work aiming to ensure people's welfare and good governance in line with pursuing 'Bangladesh First' philosophy of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Emphasizing on the environment protection, Sultan Salahuddin said equal importance must be given on protecting the environment along with the development.
Everyone must play a responsible role for building a livable Bangladesh for the future generation along with undertaking an effective initiative to curb river pollution, industrial wastage disposal and balancing the urban environment.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Ms Farida Khanam, the programme also was attended, among others, by additional deputy commissioners, representatives of different law enforcement agencies, local government division officials, lawmakers and district law and order committee members.
