Members of the Bomb Disposal Unit are currently examining the objects.
Police recovered several bomb-like objects from inside a shopping bag on Elephant Road in the capital tonight (17 August).
The objects were recovered around 10pm from the road leading towards New Market near Bata signal, according to witnesses.
Witnesses said several masked youths were involved in a scuffle at the spot. A short while later, a shopping bag was found lying there.
After noticing several red-tape-wrapped objects inside the bag, locals informed police.
Police cordoned off the area and alerted the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Bomb Disposal Unit.
Confirming the matter, Mohammad Shawkat Ali, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the New Market Zone under DMP's Ramna Division, said four bomb-like objects wrapped in polythene were found inside the shopping bag.
"The Bomb Disposal Unit arrived at the spot and took the objects away. They are examining them to determine whether they are actually cocktails or something else," he said.
