The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested prime accused Raihanul Islam, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Detective Branch of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, on Wednesday night for allegedly gang-raping a ninth-grader.

"ASI Raihanul was arrested from Metropolitan Police Lines of Pashuram area of Rangpur city after the victim testified against him before Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on Wednesday night," said PBI Superintendent of Police SM Zakir Hossain.

Raihanul was suspended on 26 October after the victim's father Aynal filed a rape case against Raihanul on 25 October night.

PBI will produce Raihanul before court today with a plea to take him on remand.

According to the victim's family and locals,  ASI Raihanul lured the girl on the pretext of love affair to a house in Kadarerpul area of Haragachh upazila on 25 October morning.

There Raihanul raped the girl and later some of his accomplices gang-raped her.

Earlier on 27 October, PBI arrested accused Babul Hossain and Abul Kalam Azad in connection with the gang-rape. Both confessed to their crime.

So far, five people have been arrested in the gang-rape case.
