Gazipur police crack murder case in just 72 hours
The arrestee also confessed to the murder
Gazipur district police have solved a murder case from Kaliakair upazila within only 72 hours. Detectives have arrested Beden Mridha, 55, the main accused in the case.
He has also given a confessional statement under Section 164 before the court, revealed Superintendent of Police Sharif Uddin at an urgent press briefing held at his office yesterday (9 December) evening.
According to police, last Saturday (6 December) around 4:30pm, farmer Monir Molla, 55, left home to visit a nearby tea stall owned by Selim Mia. By 7:30pm, his wife Jotsna Begum and family members learned that Monir had been hacked to death with sharp weapons near the Forest Office field in Sector 24 of Purbachal City, under Nagari Union of Kaliganj.
Locals and relatives rushed to the spot and found Monir's body lying in the field. Responding to a 999 call, police personnel from Ulukhola Police Camp arrived, prepared the inquest report, and sent the body to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The following day (7 December), Monir's wife filed a murder case with Kaliganj Police Station against unidentified assailants.
SP Sharif Uddin said that upon receiving the news, the district detective branch began a "shadow investigation" under his supervision at around 9:30pm that night. A DB team led by Additional SP (DB) Aminul Islam, along with SI Jamal Uddin, traced a phone call. Acting on this clue, officers arrested Beden Mridha, a childhood friend of the victim, from his home in Paraborta area of Joydebpur on Monday (8 December) at 2:30pm.
During interrogation, Beden admitted that he killed Monir because the victim had allegedly made indecent remarks about his wife.
Yesterday afternoon, when Beden was produced before the court, he gave a confessional statement under Section 164, admitting his involvement and explaining the motive behind the murder.
