After the incident, locals held an arbitration and made the boy apologise.
A video showing a schoolgirl from Kanchpur Omar Ali High School being kicked by a teenage boy in Narayanganj's Sonargaon has gone viral on social media, with the incident reportedly taking place about a month ago.
While the boy, 11, was punished through a local arbitration and made to perform sit-ups while holding his ears, the victim herself was issued a transfer certificate (TC) and expelled from the school after the video resurfaced on social media.
The incident took place around a month ago on the Shitalakshya riverbank walkway in Ward 3 of Kanchpur union.
A video circulating on Facebook and TikTok shows the teenage boy approaching two schoolgirls from behind and kicking a fourth-grade student twice after she protested.
Another person recorded the incident on a mobile phone.
Two students from Kanchpur Omar Ali High School, one from the fourth grade and another from the seventh, were there at the time.
The boy allegedly approached the fourth-grader from behind and kicked her twice.
After the incident, locals held an arbitration and made the boy apologise while he performed sit-ups with his ears held.
A video of his apology was later circulated on social media. In the video, he is seen promising not to repeat such behaviour.
Sonargaon Police Station Inspector Md Anwar Hossain said police have seen the viral video.
"We have not received any written complaint from the victim's family. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is filed," he said.
Abdul Matin Sarker, headteacher of Kanchpur Omar Ali High School, said the school management committee decided to issue TCs to both girls.
"The committee took the decision because they were roaming outside the school during school hours," he said.
The victim's father said he is now preparing to enrol his daughter in another school.
