Court grants one-day jail gate interrogation of accused in MP Nazrul video case

A Dhaka court today (24 July) permitted police to interrogate an accused for one day at the jail gate in a case filed over the alleged assault and attempted murder of a man suspected of leaking a video involving Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain passed the order after rejecting a five-day remand plea for the accused, Rakibul Hasan.

Earlier in the day, the case's investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Rakibul Huda of the Pallabi Zonal Team, produced Rakibul before the court and sought a five-day remand.
According to the remand petition, police need to question the accused to uncover the motive behind the incident, identify and arrest other suspects and recover the viral video involving MP Gazi Nazrul Islam and the complainant's niece.
Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam of the prosecution division confirmed the development, saying no lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused during the hearing.
Earlier, on 22 July, another accused in the same case, Aminur Rahman, was sent to jail.
According to the case statement, complainant Obaidur Rahman lived with his sister at Rose Garden Tower in Pallabi's Kalshi area and worked as the personal driver of MP Gazi Nazrul Islam.
The complaint alleges that Nazrul frequently visited the residence due to family ties and later developed an illicit relationship with Obaidur's niece.
After learning of the matter, Obaidur informed his family and requested the MP to end the relationship.
The complaint alleges that Nazrul subsequently threatened to kill him.
The complaint further alleges that a group based in Moghbazar later obtained several objectionable videos involving the MP and the complainant's niece and attempted to blackmail him.
Believing that Obaidur had secretly recorded the videos and supplied them to the media and the alleged blackmailers, the MP allegedly ordered an attack on him on 14 July.
Obaidur alleged that Aminur Rahman lured him into the drawing room of the residence around 11am that day, where several accused beat him with sticks.
He further alleged that Aminur threw him to the floor and attempted to strangle him.
The complaint says Obaidur's mother, Tahmina, and younger sister, Mim, intervened and raised an alarm, prompting the attackers to flee.
He later received treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.
The first information report (FIR) also alleges that the accused have continued to threaten to kill Obaidur and that he has gone into hiding due to security concerns.
