Supreme Court Secretariat appeal hearing deferred till 1 September
The state filed its appeal against the High Court verdict on 21 May
The Appellate Division has adjourned the hearing of an appeal until 1 September that challenges a High Court ruling which directed the establishment of a separate and independent secretariat for the Supreme Court within three months.
The order was issued today (16 June) by the Appellate Division, led by the chief justice, following an application filed by the state.
Earlier, on 9 June, the Appellate Division stayed the High Court's judgment that had instructed the government to create an independent secretariat for the Supreme Court.
The state filed its appeal against the High Court verdict on 21 May.
The case will now remain pending before the Appellate Division until the next hearing date in September.
