Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis announces 3-month action plan, demands implementation of referendum results

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis has announced a three-month action plan, including a mass rally in Dhaka on 5 August, demanding implementation of referendum results.
The programme was announced this afternoon (24 April) at a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital by the party's Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, reads a press release.
As part of the programme, the party will hold citizen rally across districts in May, June and July.
The rally was chaired by Mamunul Haque. Among key speakers were Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, NCP Convener Nahid Islam, and LDP Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmad.
Mamunul said the "July movement" embodied historical struggles and milestones, drawing from events between 1905 and 2024, and warned BNP against "betraying" its political legacy. "The legacy of Shahid Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia cannot be denied and BNP will not survive by betraying their founding leaders," he said.
He also criticised what he described as diplomatic failures, alleging irregularities in the appointment of India's envoy and obstacles in importing oil from Iran. He said if the government fails to act, others are ready to take responsibility. He further warned that continued unrest in educational institutions, including Dhaka University, would place responsibility on the government.
Shafiqur said they would not accept "hegemony or fascism" and criticised sections of the current leadership for abandoning past movement commitments. He questioned the credibility of the 12 February election, saying repeated claims of fairness raise doubts.
Nahid Islam alleged the government was failing to implement reform commitments and warned that failure to implement the referendum verdict could unite parliament and street protests. He cited ongoing crises, including fuel shortages, healthcare disruptions, rising commodity prices and broader public hardship.
Oli Ahmad said the government had failed to uphold its commitments and criticised administrative control at local levels, alleging partisan influence in local bodies and governance.
Other speakers included Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju, Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Jalaluddin Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer Yusuf Ashraf, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman (Iran), Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) spokesperson Rashed Prodhan, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdul Majed Athari, Khelafat Majlis Nayeb-e-Ameer Ali Osman, Madaripur-1 MP Syed Uddin Ahmad (Hanjala), Ducsu VP Abu Sadiq Kayem, and Inqilab Mancha General Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, among others.
Leaders said their action plan will go forward until the referendum verdict is implemented and their demands are met.
