Electronic toll collection registration begins at both ends of Padma Bridge
So far, 546 vehicles have been registered under the system
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) has officially launched Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) registration at both ends of the Padma Bridge, aiming to facilitate faster and more efficient toll collection.
The field-level registration activities commenced on 3 April at the Goldenline Paribahan bus depot in Faridpur using portable RFID scanners. Additionally, a dedicated registration booth at the Mawa end remains open throughout the week.
According to a press release issued today (8 April) the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, registration facilities will be expanded in phases to the Madaripur terminal and several locations in Dhaka, including Rajarbagh, Sayedabad, and Jatrabari. So far, 546 vehicles have been registered under the system.
Authorities are distributing leaflets regularly to encourage vehicle owners to complete registration.
The ETC system allows vehicles to pass through the toll plaza without stopping, maintaining speeds of over 60 km/h. Toll payments can be made via digital platforms including Tap, Bkash, Nagad, Upay, and various banking apps.
The bridge authority highlighted several benefits of the system, including uninterrupted travel without stopping at toll plazas, saving time and fuel, enabling cashless transactions, and providing instant SMS notifications after each toll payment.
Md Abdur Rouf, secretary of the Bridges Division and executive director of the BBA, said the initiative was taken under the direction of the prime minister and the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges to modernise the country's transport system.
"Through ETC registration, vehicles using the Padma Bridge will be able to cross in the fastest possible time, which will help increase the overall economic dynamism of the country," he said.
